Policy of Use
By its nature, VR sailing is a social app and therefore we have produced a short statement on it's use at Ripon Sailing Club. This sits alongside our social media policy.
The game platform is called 'Virtual Regatta - Inshore' (VR) and the online conferencing platform that we will be using is Zoom. There is no requirement to use Zoom alongside VR, it is simply there to enhance the social experience if you wish to.
The racing will be sailed under standard RRS and we would remind members, particularly those using the Zoom feature, that bad language will not be tolerated and you will be removed from future Zoom use.
Ripon Sailing Club recognise that members of all ages will wish to get involved with VR, and in order to make sure that your child stays safe online, we ask that you do the following:
Access to the platform is made through the parent/carers account, unless your child meets the age restrictions for the platform.
An appropriate adult, like a parent or carer will remain in the room with young members during video or conference calls to help or join in. For older children, please make sure there's an appropriate adult nearby so that they can ask for help if they need it.
Your young member must take part in the video call in a suitable communal environment (not a bedroom) and be appropriately dressed. All members of the household must be aware that the call is taking place and make sure they use appropriate language and behaviour when nearby or in the background.
You will make sure your young member has 'logged off' the call correctly and signed out before turning off any devices.
All persons on the call will use appropriate language/ behaviour throughout the call - this extends to the messaging service available within the VR application.

Follow this link to log in to the members area - https://www.ripon-sc.org.uk/member-page/zoom-links-for-vr-sailing
Didn't get the email? No problem, here is a copy so you can get started...
The wait is over....
Our RSC Virtual Regatta pass is now active and we are ready to go!
We have created a new email address to manage our Virtual Sailing - vrsailing@ripon-sc.org.uk - you can drop any questions or queries you have to this address and we will get back to you. If you follow the steps below, you will be up and running in no time and ready to practice!
Step 1
Head to https://www.virtualregatta.com/en/inshore-game/ and create an account using the 'I create my account' option - you can also download the app straight to your preferred device, head to your app store and search for 'Virtual Regatta Inshore' then follow the same sign up process. During the process, you will have to input a pseudo name - this will be your racing boat name - please keep it tasteful bearing in mind that members of all ages will be playing!
Step 2
We need to know who is racing so we can record the results properly, so once you have set up your account, please email your name and your psuedo to vrsailing@ripon-sc.org.uk
Step 3
Join us on one of our VR racing news platforms - we will be posting the race times and codes, to our new VR sailing What's App group, follow the joining link here...
[THIS LINK CAN BE FOUND ON THE ZOOM LINKS PAGE IN THE MEMBER AREA]
We will also be putting the times on our official club Facebook page and website page here - https://www.ripon-sc.org.uk/sailing/vr-sailing-at-ripon-sc
Step 4
So you have signed up, sent us your name, and your boat name and got the times / code - it's time to make sure you have completed sailing the school so you have an idea of how to play the game - head to your VR installation and hit the sailing school option then follow the on screen instructions.
Step 5
Join the game! Its really easy to join in with a race - head to your installation of VR sailing and hit 'Custom Race' (you can find it next to the sailing school icon). Once you hit the custom race button, you will see a green box appear towards the bottom of the screen with a padlock and play symbol in it - hit this icon and you will be prompted to enter a private race code - once you enter the code, you will be taken straight through to the race. We are limited to 19 entrants per race (the host has to race so that takes us up to the maximum of 20) so if there is more demand than we can accommodate, we will try to run some heats - this is where it would be really useful to be on the WA group or Zoom when playing, as it will allow us to get instant feedback on whether we need to run more races.
Initially, we will be running races at similar times to when we would run club racing and we hope that all members will get involved. To add another level of social interaction to the racing, we will be running Zoom sessions alongside the racing whenever possible - we will add the Zoom links to the website as soon as we have them.
I hope everyone can get involved and enjoy this version of sailing until we can get back to the real thing.
