Family Weekend Part 2 - Sunday

Sunday morning started with an on the water Quidditch match sailed between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw (or Reds v Blues for the more boring grownups). Each team used 1 topper (seeker[s]); 2 club oppies (beaters); and 3 teras (chasers). The beaters had to throw footballs at the sails of the other team's chasers to make them throw the ball away hopefully to their team. The chasers threw a ball to the Jaffa at the other

Family Weekend Part 1 - Friday & Saturday

Ripon Sailing Club's Family Weekend ran from Friday 14 th to Sunday 16 th August. The weekend started with some casual sailing on the Friday afternoon/evening. Everyone used their own boats and as it was relatively breezy we were just trying to go fast. Once boats were put away and everyone was changed, the ROTTERS played football on the field with people coming and going because of the BBQ until it

MidSummer Medley Part 2 The Fleets Trophies

After the excitement of the 9-5 Race on Saturday, Sunday saw a very different style of racing during the Fleets Trophies. This year we had class racing for Streakers, Solos, Supernovas and Optimists, although the Streaker fleet was reduced by several sailors being away at the Nationals which also removed one of the family rivalries from the water. The wind was a little stronger than on Saturday but still predominantly from the East meaning

    Weed All About It!

You've probably noticed that there is a lot of weed about in the lake at the moment. Its been particularly bad around the jetties and near the boat house, and we've recently held a couple of work parties to start getting it back under control. During the first work party the aim was to find the most effective tools and options for removing the weed. This also involved taking a closer look at the types

    ROTTERS Lite at Half Term

We were treated to some fantastic weather over the May half term, which meant that we were able to run ROTTERS Lite sessions on both Saturdays. It was especially great to see several sailors making the most of the new RS Fevas. Gilbert spent some time learning how to use the spinnaker, while Katie and Ollie L teamed up to complete one of the Saturday races and Rowan and Elsa did an amazing job applying

    May ROTTERS

After a busy Open Day and the early May RYA courses, the ROTTERS session on Saturday 16 th May was focused on giving our less experienced sailors valuable time on the water. The weather was great, with the sun shining and enough wind to make sailing easy, and the ROTTERS were out in force. So many people sailed during the day that I'm bound to forget some of you, but there were plenty
