Dinghy Recovery Skills Session
Do you have a safety boat duty coming up? Are you looking for some practice in driving Ripon SC powerboats and gaining experience/guidance on providing support to capsized dinghies?
The new RSC Dinghy Recovery Skills Session (DRSS) has been introduced to provide members with the basic skills of dinghy recovery from a powerboat, helping you build your confidence in dealing with such situations. This session is in addition to the Club's Powerboat Familiarisation/Skills Update Session. If you haven't recently completed a Powerboat Familiarisation session you are advised to do so before the DRSS.
At the end of the session you will be able to tow a club dinghy out into the middle of the lake; capsize it and right it from the powerboat. Then tow the dinghy back to the jetty.
The 2½ hour session will be delivered by one of our experience powerboat instructors or a senior dinghy instructor who will offer guidance and demonstrate the techniques of dealing with:
- Strong wind scenarios;
- What to do when a dinghy turns turtle and the mast gets stuck in the weed/lake bottom; and the dagger board has disappeared!
- How to get a sailor back onboard their dinghy or into the powerboat;
- How to recover a boat that has blown onto the shore/lake-side; is in shallow water and has its mast stuck in the trees.
Session dates can be found on the Club Calendar and bookings will be open before each session.
