For 2017 we hope to maintain or grow numbers in the fleet which, (with the departure of the Streakers to their own Fleet) is dominated by the Solo Class. Of course we'll have the regulars in the other boats that fit the medium handicap PY bands and there's the occasional addition to the fleet of Europe dinghies sailed by 2 very competitive female helms!
The predominance of single-handed boats doesn't mean that two-handed boats aren't eligible or welcome to race in the medium handicap fleet. The single-handers are often joined by Fireflies and both of these classes sail off very similar handicaps to Solo's. If you've got a boat that's slower than an Enterprise and faster than a Topper this is the fleet you'll find yourself racing in for the handicap races.
We always get a good number of boats on the water to race in this fleet so you are guaranteed to have other boats around that will help you to judge how you are doing. The size of the racing fleet means that there's a range of skills and ability. Whether you are towards the front, the middle or the rear of the fleet you'll always have the chance to test your skills against someone else so there's no time to get bored. Can't get your boat to match the speed of the others? Well with a number of the Club's RYA Racing Coaches in the fleet there are plenty of opportunities to seek one of us out for help and advice on sailing techniques or rig settings.
If you are new to the fleet or thinking of joining it seek out Richard Pryke on a race day or email him and introduce yourself.
