Medium Handicap Fleet
Medium Handicap Fleet Rep: Andy Cheetham (Solo 5413)
Hi, I'm Andy Cheetham one of the instructors at the club and your Medium fleet and Solo fleet representative. You can contact me here or call me anytime on 07782 115993. If you've got (or plan to get) a boat that's slower than an Enterprise and faster than a Topper this is the fleet you'll find yourself racing in for the handicap races. There are a lot of single handers in the medium fleet but we do have some two handed dinghies including the Graduate, and Wanderer who race against single handers including the British Moth, Europe, Laser, and the Solo - a lot of Solos! The medium fleet at the club is dominated by the Solo which is a roomy 12.5 foot single hander. You don't need to be an Olympian to sail in one - I'm unfit, 6'3" and 15 stone, if you happen to be fitter, smaller or lighter you'll go faster and find it just as easy to sail!
Personally when I began sailing in this fleet 5 years ago I found the camaraderie in the fleet a real bonus. A number of the clubs RYA coaches are in the medium fleet who willingly give help and advice. If you're a newbie you'll get looked after here and because we've got as many novices as experienced speed merchants so you'll always have someone to race against. If you're thinking of a boat in this fleet just drop me a line and I'll be happy to discuss the fleet over a cup of tea at the club. I can always arrange for someone with the type of boat you might have in mind to also be on hand unless it's a Solo in which case you can take a look at mine which is from a respected local builder (in Keighley) called Winder Boats.
