Pre-Sailor
PRE-SAILORS (<7 years)
We actively encourage families with young children to enjoy their leisure time at the club. Please make sure pre-sailors are wearing their buoyancy aids when near the water and encourage them to get involved rigging and de-rigging the boats, watching the sailing and generally being "part of it". Encouragement and involvement at an early age means they are more likely to want to sail in the future.
If you want to take them out on the water just go for it - pick a quiet warm day and go for a joy-ride. If your sailing skills and your confidence mean you don't think you can do this, then ask for help. Another club member will often be more than happy to have an adventure with you and your young children on board.
There are toys and games in the conservatory when they need a break from their adventures. Please look after the toys and ensure that everything is tidied up before you leave.
Pre-sailors are always welcome to attend Y&J events provided they are appropriately supervised. Depending on the weather we sometimes run "Ducklings" activities aimed at the younger sailors during Y&J and club events. Our RSC Ducklings award is designed to encourage our pre-sailors to learn important safety rules and recognise their first sailing adventures.
