PRE-SAILORS (<7 years)
We actively encourage families with young children to enjoy their leisure time at the club.Involvement at a young age encourages children to get involved and aspire to be like the older children and maintains their interest as they start to sail.
If you want to take them out on the water just go for it - pick a quiet warm day and go for a joy-ride. If your sailing skills and your confidence mean you don't think you can do this, then ask for help. Another club member will be more than happy to have an adventure with you and your young children on board.
There are toys in the conservatory when they need a break from their adventures and a storage box at the rear of the club house contains outside toys. Please return the toys when you have finished with them. These toys have been donated by generous members as well as a contribution from club funds.
Children who are too young to participate in the organised Y&J sailing events are still welcome at the club during the event, provided they are fully supervised by an adult. Please make sure they are wearing their buoyancy aids when near the water and encourage them to get involved rigging and de-rigging the boats, watching the sailing and generally be "part of it".Encouragement and involvement at an early age means they are more likely to want to sail in the future.
We endeavor to provide a few social and organised activities for this age group during the year, please see the website, events emails and noticeboards for information. These are either pre-planned and advertised in advance but many are adhoc, spur of the moment adventures, usually on a Sunday when there is a suitable number of Pre-Sailors around and a suitable number of experienced adults or older Y&J available to help.
