Classes and Fleets

We currently support five fleets that enjoy good racing:

Streaker Fleet - Fleet Contact: Tim Coleman
The popular Streaker class has its own Fleet status, so if you enjoy one-on-one racing this may be the one for you.
Fast Handicap Fleet (PY 1135 and lower) - Fleet Contact: Martin Barrett

There are four popular classes raced in the fast handicap fleet: RS200, Enterprise, Laser and Supernova,
with regular appearances from National 12, Phantom and Graduate.

Medium Handicap Fleet (PY 1134 to 1204) - Fleet Contact: Mark Spurrell

The primary class in this fleet is the Solo which attracts good entries and provides a good level of competition right across
the fleet. The ILCA 6/Laser Radial and Firefly also race in this fleet alongside any other boat in the PN range.

Slow Handicap Fleet (Above PY 1205) - Fleet Contact: Roger Tait

There are three primary classes racing in this fleet, Mirror, Topper and RS Tera. This is very much the fleet for encouraging youngsters to take part in racing

DF65 & IOM RC Yacht Fleets - Fleet Contact: Ian Smith

WE Have two RC Yacht Fleets, DF65 & IOM. DF65 racing takes place on Wednesday mornings with IOM racing on Wednesday mornings through out the year. For more details go to the RC Yacht page.

Handicap and Pursuit Racing:

The RSC Local Portsmouth Numbers and Fleet Splits; a sample of the RSC Pursuit race calculator (Topper start) and our Sailing Instructions can be found via the links at the bottom of this page.

What can I sail?

Our lease allows us to sail dinghies which are no longer than 15ft. We work hard to encourage members to join our existing fleets - the list of boats which are approved for use at Ripon SC is shown below. If you want to sail a different type of boat, which is not listed, you must apply for permission to do so, via membership@ripon-sc.org.uk. Experience over many years has shown which boats are good for our water, and we are keen to encourage members to buy boats which will sail well on our water. Those shown in bold are the larger fleets in the club.

Approved classes of dinghy:

Enterprise, Firefly, GP14, Graduate, Laser (ILCA 7; ILCA 7 and ILCA 4), 2000, Merlin Rocket, Mirror, National 12, Optimist, Phantom, RS Feva, RS Tera, RS Quba, RS Vision, RS200, Solo, Streaker, Supernova, Topper.
