Classes and Fleets

We currently support 5 fleets that enjoy good racing:

Streaker Fleet - Fleet Contact: Chris Wright
New for 2017 the dominant Streaker class has been given its own Fleet status,
so if you enjoy one on one racing this is the one for you
Fast Handicap Fleet (PY 1135 and lower) - Fleet Contact: Martin Barrett

There are 4 popular classes raced in the fast handicap fleet, RS200, Enterprise, Laser and Supernova
with occasional appearances from N12, Phantom, Albacore

Medium Handicap Fleet (PY 1136 to 1200) - Fleet Contact: Andy Cheetham

The primary class in this fleet is the Solo which attracts good entries and provides a good level of competition right across
the fleet . The Laser Radial, Europe and Firefly are also welcome within this fleet, as are any other boats within this PN range.

Slow Handicap Fleet (Above PY 1200 ) - Fleet Contact: Jamie Kerslake

There are 3 primary classes racing in this fleet, Mirror, Topper & RS Tera.
This is very much the fleet for encouraging youngsters to take part in racing

DF65 Yacht Fleet - Fleet Contact: Ian Smith

This is a one design yacht raced regularly at the club on Wednesdays throughout the year. For more details go to the DF65 page.

Follow this link for a detailed breakdown of the 2017 PY numbers used at Ripon, Note that these are provisional ratings for 2018 pending final updates from the RYA that are typically issued in March.

What can I sail?

Our lease allows us to sail dinghies which are no longer than 15ft. We work hard to encourage members to join our existing fleets - the list of boats which are approved for use at Ripon SC is shown below. If you want to sail a different type of boat, which is not listed, you must apply for permission to do so, via membership@ripon-sc.org.uk. Experience over many years has shown which boats are good for our water, and we are keen to encourage members to buy boats which will sail well on our water. Those shown in bold are the larger fleets in the club.

Approved boats:

Enterprise, Firefly, GP14, Graduate, Laser (full, radial, 4.7), Laser 2000, Laser Pico, Merlin Rocket, Mirror, National 12, Optimist, Phantom, RS Feva, RS Tera, RS Quba, RS Vision, RS200, Solo, Streaker, Supernova, Topper.
