There are a number of opportunities for sailing on a Wednesday:
During the main sailing season (April through until the end of October) Wagalers racing is available for all-comers on Wednesday afternoons. This highly popular (informal) series is facilitated by ex-Commodore Dennis Altoft with the support of participating sailors taking a fair turn to support Dennis in the race-hut and provide safety boat cover. The season for this friendly racing is divided into four series, Spring, Summer, Holiday and Autumn. There are two single-fleet handicap races each afternoon, with the first start at 14:00hrs, then a short tea break before the second. For retired members, juniors/parents during the school holidays and anyone lucky enough to be able to take Wednesday afternoons off, Wagalers offers a great introduction to racing or for the more experienced, great handicap racing.
For those interested in radio controlled yacht racing, the Dragon Force 65 fleet sail all year round. Sailing takes place on a Wednesday morning (10:30hrs) in the winter and after Wagalers (16:30hrs) during the main season.
Formal racing is also available on Wednesday evenings. Whether you have been at work all day or sailing with the Wagalers in the afternoon, Wednesday evening racing offers a great opportunity to sail with a range of abilities in a single handicap fleet. With a start at 19.15hrs, one single-fleet handicap race is run each Wednesday evening from April through until the end of August. The season is divided into two series. The trophies for this series, and a record of recent winners, can be viewed in the Trophy Cabinet on the Club's website. The Wednesday Evening Handicap Series One Trophy here and Wednesday Evening Handicap Series Two Trophy here. You are required to be logged in to view the Trophy Cabinet.
If in doubt please check the Club events Calendar to ensure you know what's going on.
