February Working Parties and Safety Boat Refreshers

Published 12:45 on 5 Feb 2024

We have three working parties scheduled for February. We have had tremendous support for the January events but there is still a lot to do! Sunday 11th February is a normal working party where we will continue with jobs already begun in January. Items still to be done will be on the display board in the club foyer. Start time is 10.00a.m. Refreshments will again be provided once you've worked up an appetite!

The remaining two parties will be on Saturdays 17th and 24th February. These will be to complete the concreting of the slipways to the first jetty, which was started at the beginning of 2023. These parties will start at the earlier time of 8.15 a.m. and run until around 1.00 p.m., to fit in with the delivery schedule of the concrete truck. This is a fairly physical job, so many hands will make light work to get the concrete laid as quickly as possible and we would appreciate it if we had a good turnout. Concreting of the beach has made a tremendous difference to launching and recovery of boats last year, so it will be great to finish this final section. Again, refreshments will be provided on both days.

Finally, on Sunday 11th, Stuart O'Rourke will be running safety boat refresher courses lasting 15-20 minutes alongside the work parties. We are wanting to ensure as many people as possible are familiar and competent to handle the safety boats, especially the RIB, so this is just a quick session to take advantage of whilst you're on site. Sign up with Stuart when you get to the club and he will give you a time slot during the day. Wetsuits and drysuits are not required, but bring waterproofs and ensure you have your buoyancy aid with you.
