Short Format Racing Trials Sunday 18th February

Published 12:19 on 6 Feb 2024

As you may know, we are looking to introduce short format racing within the racing programme later in the year. This is seen as a way of providing an exciting alternative to normal racing as well as a stepping stone for new sailors to transition into the main fleet racing.

On the morning of Sunday 18th February, we will be having an experimental session to be run by Oscar Shilling from the RYA. This is exactly what it says and will be to try different formats to see what works for us as sailors and ROs alike. We want as wide a range of sailors as possible from old hands to novices. Please come along and be part of the experiment.

If you can arrive on site and be rigged and ready to sail by 09.30, we will have a short briefing session in the clubhouse followed by three short 1520-minute races. There will be a short break for coffee and discussion, followed by a further 2-3 races as time permits. We are aiming to finish by 12.15 to allow for lunch and feedback on the session before normal racing in the afternoon at 13.00. For further information, contact Graham Lamond on sailing@ripon-sc.org.uk

At this stage, nothing is fixed, just bring an open mind and a willingness to experiment and we look forward to a fun and instructive morning.

Whilst we are not taking names for this session, be prepared to change and be rigged as quickly as possible so as to make best use of the time available.
