Saturday Improver Sessions

Saturday Improver Sessions

Any member who has completed RYA Junior Stage 1 or RYA Adult Level 1 may join Saturday morning/afternoon Improvers.

This is supported time on the water, led by the club's experienced Training and Coaching Team members. Sessions start in April and run on most Saturdays until the end of September. Please see the website calendar, monthly Starboard Tack newsletter and noticeboards for dates.

Sessions start promptly at 9am and 1pm and we aim to be finishing on-water activities by 12.30pm and 4.30pm. You are expected to help pack up and attend the end of session de-brief. You can use the club boats for these sessions or sail your own boat. You must book a place on-line as spaces are limited to ensure we have a good ratio of session team to sailors so you get quality support to improve.

Bookings close at noon on the Wednesday before the session to give the session team time to plan the session for your maximum benefit. You are encouraged to book promptly when the booking system opens in March each season as demand always exceeds availability.

The sessions expand the skills you learn on the RYA Training course and provide valuable supported time on the water to help you learn quickly, gain a solid understanding of sailing principles and allow you to practice so you can join the next training course. Sessions are a mixture of classroom discussion and practical skills and include lots of fun!

The sessions are split into groups based on ability, so adults may be in a group with youth & junior sailors. Wherever possible we split the younger sailors into their own group as youngsters learn in different ways to adults and this makes it more fun for all and ultimately everyone is more successful. However; participants are reminded that the session team are volunteers and sometimes we do not have enough volunteers to enable us to split the attendees as we would like. You are assured of high quality, focused support regardless of the group demographic.

There are behaviour expectations for all members attending these sessions and the club committee will support the Training & Coaching Team in maintaining these behaviour standards.

Once the weather warms up, there is a social BYO BBQ every Saturday evening after sailing and you are encouraged to stay on, participate and socialise.

If you have any further questions, please get in touch with the coaching team.
