A message from David Darling, Fiona Spence & Naomi Smith.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to get in touch with the family since Barbara passed away on Saturday 4 July.

We know that Barbara meant a great deal to many people and we are aware that you may wish to have the opportunity to say goodbye and pay your respects.

Her funeral will be at Whitley Bay Crematorium on Monday 13 July at 12 noon. The Covid-19 restrictions mean that the funeral service and cremation has a limit of ten people and this will be immediate family and her closest friends only.

The family has arranged for the funeral cortege to start from her home to enable local friends to pay their respects before travelling to Prior's Haven in Tynemouth where it will pause before departing for Whitley Bay Crematorium.

Under the current restrictions, we are sadly not able to hold a gathering but hope that this will enable you to say a private goodbye in a place that meant a great deal to her and was the scene of so many happy times for the family and many of you.

After the funeral service, the family plan to go to Long Sands beach to enjoy fish and chips from Crusoe's Café and spend time together near the sea. If you are still in the area and wish to do the same within your own family groups, whilst adhering to the current social distancing requirements, the family will be very happy to see you there.

If you would like to make a donation to charity in Barbara's memory, please consider supporting Red Seal Rescue, a north east charity which offers powerboat and sea safety training to local youngsters as well as providing safety cover for many local events, regattas and activities. The family has long supported this charity and feels that it reflects many of the values and principles that Barbara championed throughout her life. Donate to Red Seal Rescue Safety Boats

The family appreciates the Covid-19 situation means that you may not be able to say goodbye on Monday, as you should make the health and safety of your own family your priority. Please remember Barbara when you are next doing something that brings you great joy and celebrate a life lived to the full as well as mourning her passing.
