ROTTERS Lite at Half Term

We were treated to some fantastic weather over the May half term, which meant that we were able to run ROTTERS Lite sessions on both Saturdays. It was especially great to see several sailors making the most of the new RS Fevas. Gilbert spent some time learning how to use the spinnaker, while Katie and Ollie L teamed up to complete one of the Saturday races and Rowan and Elsa did an amazing job applying the skills they had learned on their St1 & St2 courses to sailing a double hander together.
Its always great to see the ROTTERS pushing themselves to try new things, like Oscar Y completing a Saturday race in his Oppy before heading off on a paddling expedition down the narrows with William S. Even the grownups were trying something new, with a couple of parents sailing junior boats in one of the Saturday races just to prove they could! Funnily enough the warm weather also meant that there were plenty of people keen to practice their capsizing, although some of those same people then found they suddenly "needed a shower" when it came time to get the boats bailed and put away.
Lots of ROTTERS (and parents) completed RYA Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses over the half term week as well. There was the occasional dramatic thunderstorm to keep things interesting, but the feedback from the training team was that everyone work hard, sailed well, and should be proud of the awards they achieved. There are lots of opportunities to get out on the water and practice over the next few weeks, so don't forget to find some time to head to the club and have fun on the water.
