A Helping Hand from Holcim

We are very happy to announce that we have been awarded a generous donation of £1,500 from quarrying and aggregates company Holcim to support our ROTTERs activities. After consultation with the training team we have decided to invest the money in some new sails for boats in the training fleet used primarily by Youth & Junior sailors. Specifically we have decided to buy:
- -Two 'tri-sail' mini rigs for our Optimist training fleet. These boats are used by our youngest sailors (generally age 7-10) and the mini rigs allow our smallest sailors to learn with confidence even in the windiest conditions.
- -Two 4.2m2 sails for our Topper training fleet. These boats are used by older children (generally age 12+) and again these reduced size sails allow smaller teens to join their peer group, improving their experience of the sport.
- -One 5.3m2 sail for our Topper training fleet to provide an additional rig suitable for sailors looking to challenge themselves by moving into club racing.
- -One XD vang for an ILCA4 rig. This rig and boat combination is used by older teens, and the additional control provided by the XD equipment upgrades the boat to a level where it can be used by sailors looking to challenge themselves by moving into club racing.
We are hoping to have the new sails on site and ready to use for our Halloween ROTTERS session, when we will also hold our End of Season awards event.
