Ron Chivers

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of former club member Ron Chivers on 16 August 2023.

Ron joined the club in 1985 with his wife Judith and daughters Rebecca and Liz when he was posted by the RAF to North Yorkshire. Settling in Ripon, he quickly made an impact on the club scene with his very competitive racing in his Graduate, a boat which is still sailing at Ripon and is now helmed by his daughter, Liz. Following a move, post retirement, to Ringwood he continued his sailing enjoying time on the water with family and maintaining a great interest in the sport. He was incredibly proud of the achievements of 'his girls' not just Bec and Liz but also their own daughters.

During their time as members Ron and Judith contributed much to the club and were so pleased to have their family connection continue through Liz, Richard, Bethany and Grace and to watch them sail on visits to the club. Our thoughts are with Judith, the girls and their families.

Ron's funeral will take place at New Forest Crematorium, Stem Lane, New Milton BH25 5FH (for satnav use BH25 5SZ) at 2pm on 7 September. There is no dress code, but Ron loved the colour blue.
