Paul Thomas-Peter

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of club member Paul Thomas-Peter, after a long and very bravely fought battle with cancer. Paul passed away peacefully, at home with his wife Helen, on Easter Saturday.

Paul was a very competitive member of the Medium Handicap fleet sailing his Streaker with considerable success but perhaps making more of a mark with his British Moth, particularly on Wednesday evenings when the high aspect rig coupled with Paul's canny ability to make the most of light winds made for a very competitive combination. Paul's love of the British Moth saw him invest in a new boat in recent years, and this gave him great joy, although sadly he was to sail it for far too short a time.

An Army man and then publican, PT-P was also a very skilled genealogist and spent time not only researching his own family tree (a fascinating story) but also undertaking research for others.

The diagnosis of a rare form of skin cancer, and Paul's subsequent battle to obtain immunotherapy treatment which he eventually paid for himself brought the club together in support for his and Helen's efforts, and the Streaker Boys calendar is a lasting tribute to the high regard in which he was held. Persuading so many of our male members to take part in the calendar, with some very artfully shot nude studies, took the club's members by surprise but the calendar sold like hot cakes, raising over £1000 for Paul's treatment and raising more than a few eyebrows too!

Our thoughts are with Paul's widow, Helen, as well as the rest of this family at this especially sad and difficult time. The club will, once we are able to, ensure that an event is held to mark Paul's passing.
