Further details on RYA Training courses at Ripon SC here.
For our junior sailors who have achieved Stage 1 or are already sailing to that standard.
Pre course information will be sent out about a week before the course start date. If you have any queries, please contact training@ripon-sc.org.uk
This “ticket” is for anyone who wanted a training course place on these two days and the courses are fully booked. If we get any cancellations or we are able to offer extra places, we will come to this wait list to fill spare places.
If you have further course requests, please e mail Dianne training@ripon-sc.org.uk to let her know your requirements.
RYA Stage 1: 2 day course Juniors ages 13 – 15 years The fee is for both days and includes the use of our club dinghies, buoyancy aid, helmet plus the appropriate RYA logbook/handbook. Your child should be able to swim 25m and be confident when in deep water. This 2 day course is an introduction to sailing for complete beginners. Participants will be taught by one of our RYA qualified instructors, in small groups. Juniors will be taught in single handed dinghies. Each day will be a mix of on shore briefings and on the water activities. It is club policy that Juniors under 16 attending courses at Ripon SC are required to have a responsible adult on site for the duration of the course. An adult sailing is classed as on site. Once sailors have achieved this first award, they are eligible to join the Improver sessions at the Club.
Bookings will close 3 days before the event or when all tickets have been sold. IF THE TICKET YOU REQUIRE IS UNAVAILABE: Please add your name to the wait list. We will go to this list if there are any spare places due to cancellations. I have some juggle room between the Junior groups. Please contact training@ripon-sc.org.uk to discuss. We have another beginners course at the end of this half term week. It is likely we will run further beginners courses in the school summer holidays.
This course provides an opportunity for youngsters, aged 13 – 15 years, to get a first taste of sailing. As well as gaining confidence and learning to sail under carefully controlled and safe conditions, they make many new friends. Most first time participants will achieve an RYA Stage 1 certificate.
It is not necessary to buy all the latest sail clothing. Best to wait and see if your child enjoys the activity. Warm clothes (base layers, fleeces) and trainers which you do not mind getting wet are fine. Extra layers & clothing to layer-up and hat/gloves/socks if it likely to be cool or to change into once wet. A wind proof top eg cagoul is essential. Do not buy wet-suit type beach shoes or slip on foot-wear. Our fore shore is stony, footwear which has a firm sole, which will stay on your child’s feet when in the water is best. If you are buying a wetsuit, do not buy one for your child to “grow into”, an ill fitting wetsuit does not work and you child will be cold. We will provide buoyancy aids and helmets.
