RYA Powerboat Level 1 and Level 2 Courses

Please note that in order to be able to access these courses, you must be a member of Ripon Sailing Club.

As a training centre recognised for it's provision of powered craft training we are able to offer certification to RYA level 1 and 2, and run a series of courses throughout the year. These are predominantly run in the winter months when the craft are not needed for safety duty and the lake is free of activity but can be arranged mid-week in the summer months if there is sufficient demand. Minimum ages apply - we offer PB1 to those aged 10 and over and work with a reduced ratio of 1 instructor to 2 pupils where the group is all under 16 years of age (this is different to the RYA guidelines but based on our own experience of teaching younger helms), and aged 14 and over for PB2 (groups are likely to be 1 instructor to 2 pupils for the PB2 course).

Experienced powerboat drivers who have all the skills already can request a 1 day assessment with the Chief PBI rather than undertaking the full 2 day course. The Chief PBI will take into account experience and practical ability and decide whether or not a full course is required to achieve the standard set in the syllabus.

Both courses are nationally recognised and the PB2 certificate is often required if you want to hire powered craft elsewhere.
