MIRROR ARMADA TRAINING 2008 (SESSION 2)
On Saturday 10 May Adam McGovern, one of the Mirror Class Association’s top coaches, will be at Ripon SC to run the second of our Armada training sessions. Adam will share his top tips with participants and provide on and off the water coaching. The session will start at 10.30am (rigged and ready to sail please) and end by 3.30pm. The galley will be open throughout the day and light lunches will be available, as well as the usual tea, coffee and cake.
Steve Benn is co-ordinating the Armada programme and can provide further information – to register for the session, or the rest of the Armada programme please get in touch with Steve. The programme is free to Ripon SC members and £5 (for the series) to non members. Because we need to ensure we have sufficient safety boat cover etc you need to register with Steve as a matter of urgency and by this Saturday (3 May) at the latest. Steve Benn
Armada training is all about getting more Mirrors out sailing – please don’t worry if you havn’t done much sailing or are feeling rusty, we don’t mind whether you sail with 1, 2 or 3 sails, crewed or single handed – what counts is getting more red sails out on the water! If your boat isn't yet ready for the water it's worth getting in touch with Steve as we expect to have a number of people who may be glad to have a crew.
2008 Training underway
Armada training got underway for the 2008 season on Saturday 12 April with a day of boat rigging and tuning, and making the most of some superb sailing conditions in the afternoon. The session included an introduction to Spinnaker handling and great fun was had as the younger attendees did races to raise and lower the spinnaker on the Mirror Class Association Armada boat. The Fleck twins, Katherine and Nicola, showed considerable promise and demonstrated excellent teamwork.

Mirror Armada Coaching 2007 . The 40th sailor
has registered to join the Ripon Armada program.
Coach Richard Benson is spending the summer taking Mirror
sailors through rigging, sailing and racing skills on the
gentle Ripon Sailing Club waters as well as training up some
of the regions better Mirror sailors into qualified sailing
coaches.
With 40 sailors now signed up at Ripon the MCA is able to
point to the merits of this Club based progam unlocking the
large number of unused Mirrors in Club boat yards by giving
these sailors something to focus on.
